FDH Presenting on Value of NDT for Transmission Structures at TSDOS Posted on Sep 5, 2018

FDH’s Rakesh Khan, PE, presents “The Value of Nondestructive Testing for New Transmission & Substation Foundations” at TSDOS on September 7th in Frisco, TX. Khan, Director of Engineering and Investigative Services for FDH’s Heavy Civil Division, reviews a recent case with a major utility that was constructing a critical substation and transmission line where karst geology resulted in challenges in design and installation techniques for the caisson foundations. Available data was inconclusive on the condition of the newly installed foundations, and a solution was needed. FDH performed nondestructive testing (NDT) to verify the condition of the foundations. The scope included a proprietary dispersive wave test to determine the overall depth and location of discontinuities. For any discontinuities identified, select concrete cores were performed to verify the extent of the issues. Soil intrusion and shorter than designed foundations were identified. Foundation capacity calculations and foundation repairs were performed.

FDH is also exhibiting in the Embassy Suites Dallas-Frisco Hotel, Suite #418.
