Structural Analysis of Water Tower Amendment

The proposed wireless carrier upgrade caused the existing steel corral on the 126 foot water tank to be over stressed. FDH analyzed the structure, per the ANSI/AWWA Standard for Welded Steel Tanks for Water Storage and per the International Building Code, to determine the structural adequacy of the corral for the existing and proposed loads. FDH designed an innovative modification solution to reduce costs, facilitate construction methods, and to increase the corral’s structural load carrying capacity. Items taken into consideration included antenna rad height, ice loading, wind loading, construction methods and materials and more. Construction included removing and installing new antennas, adding remote radio heads (RRHs) and installing new hybrid fiber cable lines.
