Emergency Bridge Evaluations on I-95 Following Flood Event

In response to an emergency request from South Carolina Department of Transportation, FDH’s heavy civil division (HVC) mobilized a field crew to the state to evaluate 4 bridges along I-95 affected by flooding. Dispersive Wave and Dispersive Side Sonic test methods were utilized. FDH evaluated the concrete piles of these bridges (between mile markers 119 and 132) and identified those that were scour critical. FDH provided SCDOT with initial results on the bridges within the first 24 hours. SCDOT used the results to aid in decision making about when to open various sections of the interstate affected by flooding.
