During construction of new transmission towers in a marshy area, FDH calculated a safe load bearing access matting for heavy equipment to operate and carry large construction materials across the low-strength soil conditions. FDH evaluated the soil and other environmental concerns, such as elevation and grade. Mat strength, allowable soil bearing pressure, deflections, and duration of load were all taken into consideration for the mat design. This enabled safer and more effective construction of the transmission towers in a challenging landscape.
