FDH Showcases New Tool for Predicting Access Mat Behavior Posted on Dec 2, 2020

UPDATED. On Thursday, January 21, 2021 (2-3pm EST), FDH will host a webinar on MACSUU: A New Tool for Predicting Behavior of Access Mats. This free webinar will educate the construction and utility industries on a new process to calculate right-of-way access mat behavior, particularly for eco-sensitive conditions, such as soft soils and wetlands.

The webinar will be presented by Mr. Rakesh Khan, PE, director, technology solutions, commercial management division, and Mr. David Zambrano, PE, engineering lead, engineering services development division.

Access mats are critical on construction sites that traverse environmentally sensitive rights of way. Mat failure can cost millions of dollars in change orders, project delays, environmental damage, and remediation. MACSUU is a matting calculator that uses site conditions, mat properties, and engineering methodology to estimate the performance of mats in temporary construction applications. This webinar will review the right-of-way challenges that MACSUU resolves, provide a demonstration of the mat calculator tool, and introduce the formation of a new industry organization (North American Matting Association, NAMA), dedicated to advancing the matting industry with a focus on safety, the environment, engineering, sustainability, and economics.

This webinar is designed for contractors, planners, and managers of right-of-way construction in assessing the constructability of projects, environmental impacts, and safety risks associated with off-road construction. Applicable industries include transmission, wind, pipeline, and any industry with infrastructure on waterfronts, wetlands, or other poor soils.

This program offers one (1) PDH credit. FDH will issue a certificate documenting attendance. Attendees are encouraged to check with their state licensing board for specific requirements.
