Structural Analysis of Wood Truss Dome Ceiling in Historic Church Landmark

Built in the 1850s and located at the intersection of West Jones and South Salisbury streets in downtown Raleigh, the First Baptist Church is a well-known historic landmark in North Carolina’s capitol city. The church approached FDH with concerns about the wood truss dome ceiling in the sanctuary. No significant structural work had been undertaken in the sanctuary for 40 years. FDH performed a structural analysis of the ceiling and rooftop to determine if there existed any degradation or loading capacity concerns that would affect future renovations.
