Nestled next to an existing shopping center, this commercial medical site presented design challenges that included balancing earthwork, removing utility conflicts, and achieving a marketable location of the two medical buildings. The site infrastructure includes a parking lot, access drive, and ADA-accessible sidewalks and ramps. FDH prepared the design documents from conceptual site layout to coordinating final construction plan approvals through the Town of Cary. The project design responsibilities encompassed all site infrastructure, including strategic building placement, parking lot layout, pavement marking plan, stormwater drainage systems, sanitary sewer extensions, water services, access driveway, and ADA-accessible sidewalks. The project team implemented green infrastructure techniques by designing two stormwater bio-retention facilities that filter runoff from the improvements and encourage infiltration to the groundwater. Work also included erosion and sediment control design, site grading, balanced earthwork and landscaping to meet and exceed the local requirements. Construction phase services included shop drawing review, site inspections, utility certifications, as-built drawings, and timely responses to contractor’s requests for additional information.
