To demonstrate and validate the Dispersive Wave (DW) testing method, FDH is working in close collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) to test trunnion anchor rods at eight dams (i.e. J T Myers, Markland, Greenup, West Point Dam, Hannibal, Newburg, Willow Island and Cannelton). During this investigation, lift-off tests are being performed on a representative number of rods (about 10% of anchors) to calibrate empirical models for predicting post-tensioned force in the rods. In addition, 3D Finite Element models of the post-tensioned trunnion anchor rods are being developed as virtual lift-off tests to eventually eliminate the need for performing lift-off tests completely. Currently, testing and analyses have been completed on seven dams, with DW testing at Cannelton forthcoming. After completion of the eight dams’ validation study, a blind test will be performed at the ERDC facility in Vicksburg, MS, to demonstrate the accuracy and final validation of the DW test method.
