A major utility company in the South needed to determine the current condition of existing lattice transmission tower foundations for reconductoring. FDH used its nondestructive investigation methods to test and map the condition of the foundation, and identify the rebar location and size. It was determined that the value of the existing foundation could be reused, but required enhancement. FDH developed a unique augmentation modification to support the current needs and designed micropiles attached by a wing to the existing foundation. This innovative solution not only restored the foundation to a safe capacity level, but also prevented service outages and greatly reduced cost to the structure owner.
