FDH Promotes Best Practices in Tower Inspections Posted on Feb 12, 2020

With over 70 years of experience on communications infrastructure in every conceivable terrain, FDH and its broadcast services division, Stainless®, have published an infographic identifying the essential elements that contribute to a “quality tower inspection.”

The convergence of several major industry developments has driven the need for increased tower inspections over the last few years:

  • Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-14 Committee’s publication of Revision H of the ANSI/TIA-222 Structural Standard for Antenna Supporting Structures, Antennas and Small Wind Turbine Support Structures
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) broadcast repack initiative
  • 5G network deployments
  • Uptick in mergers and acquisitions of tower portfolios

The infographic helps tower owners and managers understand the various types of tower inspections, recommended inspection cycles, and the basic components that ensure a thorough, quality inspection has been conducted. While the focus is primarily on tall towers (up to 2,000 ft. high), the infographic broadly applies to both the telecommunications and broadcast sectors.
