Dr. Pramila Adhikari, geotechnical engineer for FDH Infrastructure Services, presents the results of her PhD research at the 99th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in Washington, DC (Convention Center 209C, Jan. 14, 8-9:45 am). Dr. Adhikari’s paper presentation, “Calibrated Static Analysis Methods and Reliability-Based Resistance Factors for LRFD of Steel H Piles Driven in Intermediate Geomaterials,” examines pile capacity estimation in complex geomaterials in the continuum between soil and rock, and investigates ways to improve the estimation for Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD). Dr. Adhikari joined FDH in August 2019 and is based in the firm’s Raleigh, NC, office. Her research interests include deep foundations, soil-structure interaction, geotechnical earthquake engineering, and reliability analysis. She received her PhD from the University of Wyoming, Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, where she also worked as a research assistant. Previously, Dr. Adhikari served as an irrigation engineer for the Department of Irrigation in Nepal and as a part-time lecturer in mechanical engineering at the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University (Nepal).
